'An Engineer's perspective of Building Information Modelling (BIM)'
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the new catchphrase for the Building Design world, with Revit being the most widely known and available platform to use. There is still no single accepted definition of BIM, however, whatever the definition, Revit alone does not constitute BIM. Despite this lack of understanding within the industry, BIM (and at times Revit itself) is becoming the documentation requirements of clients.
Through the experience gained by using Revit on Health, Oil and Gas, Government and Commercial projects, the presentation will discuss the challenges and the problems that occur during the MEP design. Likewise, solutions to these problems to enable an MEP design to be fully integrated into BIM will be presented. The ultimate BIM outcome is to facilitate a 2 way flow of information which is required for today’s and tomorrow’s design.
Daniel Morrison is a Mechanical Engineer & is the Principal Technical Officer for AECOM’s Perth’s office. He plays a leading role nationally for AECOM in the implementation of Revit and BIM throughout their offices in Australia and New Zealand.
