IAMA Expert Witness Workshop

IAMA NSW is presenting an Expert Witness Course on 9th, 23rd and 30th July 2009. It was previously run over two afternoons but has now been expanded to three afternoons (from 2 – 6 pm per day).

Preparing an expert report is not just about having appropriate expertise. Courts have strict criteria that need to be met for expert evidence to be admissible. Any person preparing an expert report and giving expert evidence must understand their role and what the Law and the Courts require. This workshop will give you a clear understanding of your obligations and address the practical aspects of preparing an expert report and giving evidence in a Court or before a Tribunal.

Sessions will be presented by experienced practitioners and lawyers supported by a comprehensive set of course notes. Topics include:

What the Law and the Courts require
The role of the expert
Preparing the expert report (2 sessions)
Common problems with expert evidence
Giving evidence
How to respond to cross-examination

The workshop includes the preparation of a short expert report as a “take home” assignment, feedback on the assignment and exposure to the process of cross examination by practising Barristers. Professionals experienced in preparing expert reports as well as new comers will find the workshop invaluable.

Numbers are limited to 30 to ensure all those attending are able to fully participate in the workshop learning experience

Modules 5 to 7 Thursday 23 July from 2 to 6 pm.

Module 8 – 11 Thursday 30 July from 2 to 6.15 pm,
