CIOB Recognition

The Chartered Institute of Building Qualifications in Australia and New Zealand are not currently recognised for academic, professional or migration purposes, an issue which continues to affect many UK expats and international members moving to Australia and New Zealand. The CIOB and other International bodies continue to liaise with government education and licensing bodies to gain better recognition of international professional qualifications in both these countries.

Construction professionals in each state in Australia need a Builders Licence to be able to operate. Currently the Institute Corporate grade does not give any exemption towards obtaining a builders Licence in any of the states and members need to apply individually to the relevant Builders Licence Registration Board in each state in Australia. In New Zealand the situation is slightly different and further details can be found in the documents available to download below.

Mapping of English and Australian Academic and Professional Qualifications

CIOB have undertaken a mapping exercise to assist members and others better understand where academic and CIOB professional qualifications sit within the Australian Education Framework.  Please refer to the document available for download below and contact our office should you require further clarification.
