JUBILANT GEORGINA PYE AWARDED QUEEN ELIZABETH II JUBILEE FUND SCHOLARSHIP
Bond University student Georgina Pye has become the only Australian scholar to be awarded with the Chartered Institute of Building’s Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Fund Scholarship for 2011.
As this year’s scholarship recipient, Georgina receives the sum of £500.00, or approximately $800 AUD towards her study and a Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) engraved medal.
She will also have the opportunity to submit her final semester’s major piece of work to the CIOB for potential publication.
“Being awarded the CIOB Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Fund Scholarship has been an amazing experience,” said Georgina.
“To know that you have been recognised by an internationally renowned organisation for your academic efforts, motivation and potential to succeed in the construction industry is very rewarding.”
Georgina acknowledged the scholarship’s benefits stretched beyond the financial support.
“Of course, the money is definitely a bonus, but to have the prestige of the CIOB Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Fund Scholarship on my resume for years to come will be very useful when applying for future positions in the construction industry,” she said.
Currently in her second-year of a Bachelor of Property and Sustainable Development (majoring in Construction Management and Quantity Surveying), Georgina balances her studies with the demands of her role as Sustainable Development Student Association (SDSA) President and her work at leading Australian project management company Point Project Management.
“I’ve been very lucky to secure a part-time position as a project administrator with Point Project Management, one of Australia’s fastest growing client side project management companies,” said Georgina.
“Once I graduate in May 2012 I am looking forward to finally going full-time and eventually becoming an assistant project manager.
“My ultimate dream is to get into property development, but that is definitely a long term goal. My main ambition at the moment is to continue to develop my experience and in the future become a project manager, dealing in client side project management,” she said.
Georgina said her time at Bond University so far has prepared her well for the challenges of her future.
“Being President of the SDSA has been a great experience and has taught me invaluable skills in leadership, event management, time management as well as communication and interpersonal skills which have been essential when liaising with industry professionals.”
“From the range of great social and cultural events held by Bond Student Associations, to the dedication of our fantastic teaching staff and Careers Development Centre, Bond has continually helped me grow both personally and professionally,” she said.
